Elon Musk Unveils Tesla’s Cybercab and New Robotaxi Plans
At Tesla’s “We, Robot” event in California, Elon Musk introduced the Cybercab, a fully autonomous vehicle designed to operate without a steering wheel or pedals. The futuristic car was revealed at Warner Bros Studios, and it’s expected to cost less than $30,000. Musk believes this affordable robotaxi could be key to Tesla’s future, allowing owners to rent their cars out for rides and make money.
The Cybercab is set for production before 2027, but Musk admitted his timelines are often optimistic. There are concerns about whether Tesla can meet its deadlines and how safe the vehicle will be. Unlike competitors, Tesla uses cameras instead of radar or Lidar technology, raising safety questions.
Musk also showcased the Robovan, a 20-passenger autonomous vehicle, and provided updates on Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot. These announcements show Tesla’s ambition to expand into larger transportation and robotics.
